Please note this statement aims to provide practical guidance on the accessibility features and potential barriers within the Get That Job! Website. If you encounter any issues, please contact us and we would be happy to discuss any specific access requirements with you.
‘This site uses javascript to enhance the users experience and the Adobe Flash player to deliver video, audio and multimedia content. The site and all its content is usable without these installed and enabled but we recommend that you install the Adobe Flash player and enable JavaScript to use all the features to their full extent here.
Some documentation is presented in Adobe PDF format and you will need Adobe Reader installed to view these.
Accessibility Features
- All text is be resizable using your browser's text-resize option. Please visit the Making text larger in your browser section of the BBC’s ‘My Web My Way’ for details of browser resizing options.
- Increase text size and Decrease text size shortcuts are provided on every page and can be accessed using the ‘T’ buttons on the title menu.
- If you use your own style sheet, it can be applied to allow changes in the site's appearance without affecting the readability or accessibility of the information. Please visit the Using your own style sheets section of the BBC’s ‘My Web My Way’ for details of style sheets.
- Three visual designs have been provided to enable you to choose a suitable contrast for the site (normal, high contrast and pastel colour schemes). These can be accessed via the Contrast options on the title menu.
- HTML heading elements have been used to represent page structure, supporting assistive technologies that allow page navigation from heading to heading
- All hyperlinks should make sense when read out of context.
- All images have been given appropriate alternative text. Images are not used as the sole means of conveying information.
- A navigation menu is provided linking to the main sections of the site is provided on the left of every screen. A site map is provided to enable easy access to any page or content in the site.
- A 'breadcrumb trail' navigation feature is provided to help aid navigation.
- The site has been tested to ensure that it is accessible in a wide range of browsers.
- Flash videos are provided within the site. These videos are provided with closed captions subtitles and a transcript of the content provided for reference.
- A number of ‘Test Yourself’ Flash interactions have been provided throughout the site. These interactions are designed to reinforce the learning as provided in the HTML pages and add value for those learners who prefer the visual representation of information. The interactions may be inaccessible to some learners, but all content is provided textually within the site.
- Where information has been provided using proprietary software (e.g. Microsoft® Word or Adobe® PDF) the information is provided via HTML pages on the site.
Visual Design
- Cascading Style Sheets have been used to control the presentation of pages and properly structured markup has been used for content.
- If stylesheets are not supported or are turned off, information on the site an still be accessed and read.
Standards Compliance
- All HTML should validate as HTML 4.01 Strict using the W3C markup validator
- All stylesheets should validate using W3C CSS validator. The CSS is validated to css 2.1
